Pre-PowerSkate

 

Program Overview: 
Give your game an edge with PrePowerSkate — a high-energy, instructional power skating program designed specifically for hockey players. This program focuses on developing balance, control, and agility, while emphasizing the key components of power and speed. Players will work on advanced edge work, a crucial skill for quick, dynamic movement and effective maneuverability during game play. 

Our Skate Canada–certified coaches, trained through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), deliver skating techniques and performance drills in a progressive format. This ensures each participant builds the strong skating foundation needed to excel in game situations. 

Equipment Requirements: 
Participants must wear full hockey equipment, including a hockey stick. For any questions about equipment specifications, please contact us directly.

Eligibility: 

Open to participants aged 6 and older who are currently working on CanSkate Stage 4 and must be able to skate forward, backward, and stop with proficiency. Each player will be assessed and placed into a skill-appropriate group and/or time slot, which may include integration with our CanSkate program. At this level, skaters are developing skills such as: 

    • Forward one-food turns (small curve) - inside edge and outside edge
    • Backward 360 step turns
    • Forward-to-backward two-foot jumps
    • Backward-to-forward two-foot jumps
    • Forward crosscuts (clockwise and counterclockwise)
    • Forward inside and forward outside slaloms
    • Forward drag
    • Drop-down drill
    • Forward "V" start and backward stop
    • Backward circle thrusts (clockwise and counterclockwise)
    • Backward two-foot slalom
    • Backward one-foot glide with speed (right and left)
    • Forward one-foot glide from blue line to blue line (right and left)
    • Speed Drill #1: Skate from goal line to first blue line in 9 seconds or less

       

Power Skate 1

 

Program Overview: 
Take your game to the next level with PrePowerSkate — a high-energy, instructional power skating program designed for hockey players. The program develops balance, control, agility, power, and speed, with a strong focus on edge work, an essential skill for quick, dynamic movement on the ice. 

Led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches, sessions use a progressive format of skating techniques and performance drills to build the skills required for success in game situations. 

Equipment Requirements: 
Full hockey equipment is required, including a hockey stick. For questions about equipment specifications, please contact us.

Power Skate 2

 

Program Overview:
Take your game to the next level with PowerSkate — a high-energy, instructional power skating program designed specifically for hockey players. This program focuses on enhancing balance, control, agility, as well as incorporating key elements of power and speed. Special attention is given to developing edge work, an essential skill for dynamic movement and maneuverability on the ice.

Led by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches, the program uses a progressive format of skating techniques and performance drills to help players build the skills necessary to excel in real game situations.

Eligibility:
Participants must be at least 9 years old and have successfully passed Power 1. Each player will be assessed and placed into a skill-appropriate group and/or time slot. Evaluations will take place during the Power 1 sessions.

Equipment Requirements:
Players are required to wear full hockey equipment, including a hockey stick. Please contact us if you have any questions about equipment specifications. 

 

Please note: The CanPowerSkate program is exclusive to Skate Canada and is available only to Skate Canada member clubs and sanctioned skating schools. All participants must be registered with Skate Canada. Only Skate Canada member Coaches trained and certified at a CanPowerSkate Coaches Course are qualified to instruct the CanPowerSkate program.
